Legislative Update - March
17, 2008
Last week, the legislature passed House
Enrolled Act 1001, a comprehensive property
tax bill designed to provide relief to Hoosier
property taxpayers. Included in that bill
are drastic changes to Indiana’s assessment
system, most notable of these being the
transfer of assessing duties to county assessors.

Hoosiers Support Township
Government
A statewide poll of registered voters
demonstrates that Hoosiers support township
government and are opposed to its elimination.
“The results of this poll come as no surprise
to us. Taxpayers recognize that township
government continues to provide effective
and efficient services to their constituents
throughout this state,” said Debbie Driskell
, Executive Director of the Indiana Township
Association.

The GRASSROOTS is
looking for a few good Samaritans
Township trustees are elected officials,
but many are volunteers, too, who
help make their communities better places
t o live. They help out at the fire hall,
organize summer festivals, and serve meals
at the local soup kitchen. Some even have
extended a helping hand to communities beyond
their borders - and we want to hear their
story for an upcoming article in the
GRASSROOTS.
For instance, do you know a good Samaritan
township trustee who helped victims of Hurricane
Katrina or who helped residents of a neighboring
community overcome a tragedy?
If so, please send their name, township,
county, daytime telephone number,
email address, and a summary of their good
acts to ITA, PO Box 611, Fishers IN 46038.
or email itaindy@yahoo.com.
