Township of the Year 2015

Wayne Township was named the “2015 ‘Charles Bogden Memorial’ Township of the Year” by the Indiana Township Association during the annual educational conference held in Indianapolis.

Trustee Andy Harris accepted the award on behalf of the township which is located on the west side of Marion County.  Trustee Harris invited his staff members to join him on the stage as he was presented the award.

Harris noted that the township would not have the list of accomplishments if not for the great staff, township board and community with which he works with.

The annual award, named for Charles Bogden, a former board member of Wayne Township, is to be presented to a township that demonstrates accomplishments that are “above the call of duty” rather than simply good public service as the law requires.

The committee, comprised of former winners of the “Trustee of the Year” award, determined that Wayne Township met the criteria for several reasons including the establishment of the Victim’s Assistance Team which shows up on every fire scene where a resident has been displaced.  Victims are provided vouchers for hotels, along with steps toward accessing other services within the community.

Trustee Harris stated, “The most important step for the Assistance Team is not just showing up, but the follow through – staying in contact along the way until the victims are safely back in their home or have found alternative housing”.

Also noted during the presentation was the township’s Community Paramedic Program which is designed to help the uninsured and/or homeless at no charge, including flu shots, school physicals, and long-term illnesses that require on-going medical care.

Debbie Driskell, the executive director for the association stated, “Wayne Township represents the results of valuable leadership and team-work.  It demonstrates what can be accomplished by setting the bar high and then working together to achieve measurable results.  A township such as this sets a great example of leadership for the entire state”.

“How honored we at Wayne Township are to have won this award!” Harris stated.  “As trustee, I am blessed and humbled to have the “A Team” that has a servant’s heart and the will to “Get ‘er done!”.
